East Portal - Forest Lake

This was a day ski in and out to Lower Forest Lake above the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel. Wind at the parking lot was milder than is typical. Participants were Bill Rivers, Tom Glenn, and Lance Masoner. The snow was fresh from a couple of days prior. The trail was a single track with powder on each side; very unusual since most of the time the trails is packed out and wide. There were about three other parties traveling the same direction. Bill connected with a friend (David or Doug?) from the Rocky Mtn Canoe Club. We had a light snack before the last 200ft of elevation climb to the lake. Lance found a pair of sunglasses at the lake. The ski down was some of the best powder in the area for many years. It slowed us enough to enable to steeper tree skiing. Lance dropped off the trail sooner than Bill and Tom after the bridge finding some fun but very tight tree skiing.
